SB1383 Organics Recycling

California Senate Bill (SB) 1383 requires residents to divert all organic waste from the landfill, including food scraps, yard waste, and other organics. Organic waste buried in landfills takes up landfill space and releases methane, contributing to greenhouse gases.

Who must comply?

  • Residents
  • Commercial businesses
  • Commercial food generators
  • Schools
  • Government entities

California Senate Bill (SB) 1383 requires all businesses and multi-family complexes to arrange for recycling and organic waste recycling services (i.e food waste and green waste). Certain commercial businesses and multi-family dwellings of five or more units may qualify for waivers from organic waste requirements. If a waiver is not approved by the City, your property will be required to comply with all SB 1383 mandates.
